Hobie Alter, Laguna Beach, California – 1950: Hobie began by building a balsawood
fiberglass surfboard for himself. This was the beginning of Hobie Surfboards. In
1958 Hobie began experimenting with new materials, literally inventing what is the
modern day polyurethane foam surfboard. Since 1950 Hobie Surfboards has remained
one of the largest manufacture of surfboards. In the late 60’s Hobie developed the
Hobie Cat - introducing a whole new way to have fun sailing. In the past four decades
more people have taken to the water on a Hobie Cat than any other catamaran. To
this day the Hobie 16 hold’s the distinction of being the world’s best selling catamaran.
Plenty of other innovations emerged from Hobie’s imagination; He started out shaping
surfboards; he ended up shaping a culture. He didn’t just create toys; he created
a way of life, a new way of looking at things.
With the desire to make each sport
he touches better, Hobie Alter has taken a proven training technique and designed
a practical and simple golf stance alignment-training tool. The is a training aid
